Arizona Route 66 Diners and Family Diners are known for their retro feel, classic American food, and memorabilia. You’ll never to far away from a jukebox playing 50’s and 60’s favorites and many of the Diner’s staff are proudly wearing the classic diner attire you would expect. Although the atmosphere itself can make the experience great, the food is what will bring people back and most diners on Route 66 stay true to the term… DINER FOOD! Here are some of our favorites we have found on the Mother Road. These are those places you see in the movies. Pie for dessert anyone?
Oatman Hotel – Oatman
This little gem is one of our favorites and should not be missed if you’re planning your trip too or from Kingman on Route 66’s Sidewinder over Sitgreaves Pass. The Dollar Bill Bar is named for that very reason… There are literally hundreds (and we mean hundreds) of signed dollar bills lining the walls and ceiling. The restaurant is one of our fav’s for a good lunch. I’m partial to the Roadrunner Sandwich and glass of Donkey Pee (yes, that’s how you order it) and to keep with the wild burro theme that has made Oatman Arizona famous, order the basket of Burro Ears (Don’t panic, it’s just thin cut fried potatoes).
Mr. D’z Route 66 Diner – Kingman
An old-fashioned diner in Kingman that serves traditional diner fare and is known for its homemade root beer and pizza. It’s filled with Route 66 memorabilia and has hosted notable celebrities. Vintage Americana decorates this Route 66 diner serving fare such as root beer floats & burgers. Story has it that Scott Dunton even created the famous root beer. The idea came from when he visited a fair as a child and tasted a sweet, creamy root beer. In 1993, he tried to recreate that creamy taste. After several taste tests by the family, they settled on one concoction and contracted with a company to manufacture the syrup that is used in the diner today.
Delgadillo’s Snow Cap Drive-In – Seligman
A beloved diner in Seligman that’s known for its malts, tacos, and burgers. It’s built from scrap materials and has a ramshackle interior filled with Americana decor. Delgadillo’s holds the Guinness World Record for the largest selection of milkshakes. It’s recommended to check their Facebook page for up-to-date information on hours.
Roadkill Cafe – Seligman
You Kill it, We grill it. As you can probably tell from the name, The Roadkill Café is a dining adventure for those who will be welcomed inside. The Roadkill Cafe/O.K. Saloon, a diner along the Historic Route 66 serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner is definitely worth the stop. Featuring delectable and meaty platters, our menu has a great selection to choose from. Eating is more fun when you know it was hit on the run. At Roadkill Café, we take pride in our famous char-broiled burgers, buffalo burgers, and steaks.
Romo’s Restaurant – Winslow (at the airport)
Okay, not the “Classic” Route 66 diner per se but, we had to share this place if you love good Mexican Food…. Ya gotta try Romo’s!
At Romo’s Mexican Grill, we serve delicious, home-style New Mexican-inspired dishes with a twist at prices that won’t break the bank. Try our famous SPICY MUSHROOM Tacos or Keto Tacos! At Romo’s Mexican Grill, we love our guests like family. Pull up a chair and find out why TACOS = ❤️! Incredible Mexican Pizza to mouthwatering Enchiladas, we’ve got you covered. Don’t miss out on our famous Spicy Mushroom Tacos – a customer favorite!
Goldies Route 66 Diner – Williams
The minute you walk into Goldie’s Route 66 Diner, you will be transported back to a time when life was a little simpler. Its retro atmosphere makes it a popular dining destination for both locals and tourists. The diner has a casual, throwback feel with 1960s styling. The restaurant’s decor includes vintage signs and photos of Route 66. The menu offers classic American breakfast, lunch, and dinner options. The burgers and fries are cut, pressed, and cooked to order. And the milkshakes are made with real ice cream. If you’re ever in the area, be sure to stop by for a bite. You won’t be disappointed. Casual throwback with 1960s styling offering classic American breakfast, lunch & dinner eats.
Calico’s Family Diner – Kingman
Family owned and operated since 1987, feeding locals and travelers for over 30 years and serving up the freshest eats along with the classics. Although not right on Route 66 (I mean seriously, just one block off) we wanted to share this location with the Arizona Route 66 traveler. In addition to being a family run business, serving awesome food and provides great service. Calico’s has been a BIG SUPPORTER OF Arizona Podcast. They have provided logistics for some of our live programming and podcasts and it’s an honor to include them in this list of great Route 66 Diners.
Rutherford’s 66 Family Diner – Kingman
It’s a family affair at Rutherford’s 66 Family Diner. Brent, Tammy, Shane, and Matthew invite you to their place for breakfast, lunch and or dinner. This family friendly atmosphere offers a casual and affordable eating experience. A cozy outside patio complete with tables and bench seats, sits adjacent to Historic Route 66.
