The Oatman Fourth of July Sidewalk Egg Fry is an annual event in Oatman, Arizona, where contestants use the sun’s heat to cook eggs on the sidewalk:
- When: The 2024 event will be held on Thursday, July 4, with registration beginning at noon and the competition starting at 1 PM.
- Where: The event takes place on the sidewalk in downtown Oatman.
- How it works: Contestants have 15 minutes to cook their eggs using only the sun’s power. They can’t use fire or electricity, and they can’t block the sidewalk to the Candy Shoppe.
- What to bring: Contestants can bring their own ideas for cooking eggs, such as magnifying glasses, aluminum foil, or mirrors.
- Prizes: First, second, and third place prizes are awarded.
- History: The egg fry originated in 1983 as a competition between Laughlin, Nevada, and Bullhead City, Arizona.
